More than a homestead.
Missouri Photographer, capturing life on the homestead.
Life on the homestead holds a great significance for our entire family.
One aspect that stands out in particular is the upbringing of children, who are exposed to a unique opportunity to develop an appreciation for the land, understand the value of hard work, and reap the rewards it brings.
Growing up on a homestead is unlike any other upbringing. Children witness firsthand the dedication and commitment required to maintain and nurture the land. They see their parents tending to crops, nurturing livestock, and engaging in various tasks that contribute to the overall harmony of the homestead. From the earliest age, they learn the value of hard work as an essential and meaningful part of life.
As the seasons change, children become attuned to the cycles of nature. They discover the significance of sowing seeds in the spring and reaping the harvest in the fall. They experience the joy of seeing the fruits of their labor, whether it be a bountiful crop or a well-maintained garden bursting with fresh produce. This tangible outcome of their efforts instills a sense of pride, teaching them that hard work brings tangible rewards.
Beyond the practical benefits, life on the homestead instills a deep appreciation for the land and all it provides. Children learn to cherish the resources that nature bestows upon them, from the fertile soil beneath their feet to the clear water flowing through the streams. They understand the importance of conservation and sustainability, knowing that the land must be cared for in order to continue yielding its blessings.
However, it is not solely the work and the land that shape these young individuals. Life on the homestead also cultivates qualities such as resilience, creativity, and problem-solving. As they face the challenges that naturally arise, children learn to adapt, think critically, and find innovative solutions. This instills in them a sense of independence and confidence, setting them up for success in all aspects of life.
Moreover, the homestead serves as a haven of connection and bonding for the entire family. With the absence of distractions like technology, children engage in meaningful interactions with their parents and siblings. Whether it is gathering around the dinner table to share a meal made from the harvest, or working together to complete a demanding task, these experiences foster a deep sense of unity and allow for strong family bonds to form.
What a blessing it is to capture the moments that unfold on our cherished homestead, preserving the profound impact it has on our child, molding her into a resilient, self-reliant individual with an unwavering appreciation for the beauty of nature and the power of hard work.
Birkley, Newborn
Sweet Baby Girl, you are SO loved
In a word where so many things seem upside down, this little light brought me so much joy. I immediately connected with her family, and fell in love with this little sweet pea.
She does gain the tittle of largest newborn at Abby Nelson Photography! Those larger babies are defiantly hard for my tiny hands to handle. None the less, her delicacy of her newborn stage was captured perfectly.
For sweet little miss, I opted for a beautiful plum tone. This color was an amazing compliment to her skin tone, and of course I always pair a deep tone, with a neutral for newborns, for a beautiful cohesive gallery.
Motherhood.
The journey to the Motherhood session at Abby Nelson Photography
I often think about the vision I had for my business MANY years ago. I really had it set in my heart and in my mind that I would have this beautiful natural lit studio, with amazing window light, because I had a love for all things raw and organic and NATURAL, and I still do! Many years went by, and I kind of let go of that vision. I went thru a few moves with the studio, I learned studio lighting because I never really found the desired location.
As we all know, a couple of years ago, things for many business owners took a turn, and a lot of us were forced to make decisions. I made the decision to move the studio. This was the toughest move for me yet, I felt like my business was failing.
I didn't know it at the time, but this change was the biggest blessing! In April of 2020, I found my studio, the one I had envisioned years ago. This new change in location really pushed me to refocus my business, and really figure out what aspects of photography I wanted to focus on. With a bit of time, I had a renewed passion for the art, I really started shooting with more purpose.
I have now been in my beautiful, natural lit studio for nearly three years, and I feel like its all come full circle, all in God's perfect time.
One of the very first sessions I held in my beautiful studio was a motherhood session. I really felt like these lifestyle images spoke to my heart, and as a result, I really shot from the heart. These sessions, and the journey to get to the place I’m at now, really impacted a change in direction I didn’t know I needed.
I've held some type of seasonal motherhood session for many years now. It was truly sparked by the birth of my daughter in 2017, I shot my first motherhood session in 2018 and fell in love, I wasn’t where I wanted to be as an artist, but the fire was lit. By 2020 my business evolved and I had grown by leaps and bounds as an artist. I finally landed my dream studio space. It all unfolded in front of me, interest in these sessions really grew, and I added the motherhood session to a year round booking by 2022, and I’ve been blown away by the bookings.
Needless to say, these sessions have a very special place in my heart.
For 2023, I will be offering a limited edition motherhood session for the months of March and April. I'm so honored to continue to capture these amazing moments with you and your children.
These ARE the MOMENTS!
Evelyn 2022
I think that little Miss Evelyn’s session might be my favorite to date! She was so easy going, and so were her parents.
I had the pleasure of taking maternity pictures for Evelyn’s mommy and daddy, they took me out on their family farm, and just made me feel like an old friend. I look forward to capturing more of their milestones in the future!
Rosalie 2022
And another for today!
Little Miss Rosalie was not interested in sleeping when she first arrived at the studio, she had so many new things to experience! She’s already so loved, and spoiled! Here is a peek into her beautiful sessions full of jewel tones!
Juniper 2022
Well, I’m trying something new, Bogging about a session!
Here it goes.
This tiny little bundle was born at home, and let me just tell you, her mommy is my hero. She labored and delivered at home, and included her other children in her home birth. An awesome woman, mother, and friend.
I’m always deeply touched when folks ask me to photograph their newborns, the spend some of their first days of their lives with me. So here is a peek into little Ms Juni’s session.
